Today’s the Day! Illinois Governor Pritzker to Pardon Thousands of Low-Level Cannabis Convictions
As reported by Chicago’s WGN, the governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker is expected to issue thousands of pardons today, releasing imprisoned Illinois citizens with low-level cannabis convictions. Illinois residents have been eagerly awaiting this day for months, as anyone can imagine.

The pardons mean that hundreds of thousands of cannabis conviction records for possession of 30 grams or less of weed will be expunged. However, the state’s attorneys are expected go a step further, considering vacating cases for up to 500 grams.
In the article, the governor is quoted as saying, “For the many individuals and families whose lives have been changed, indeed, hurt, because the nation’s war on drugs, discriminated against people of color, this day belongs to you, too.”
