Sen. Elizabeth Warren Details Her Plan for Cannabis Legalization
Like all of the remaining Democrat 2020 presidential candidates, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is in favor of cannabis law reform. And now, as reported on the Nasdaq website, she has laid out exactly what she would do about cannabis if elected president. She posted the plan on her website in a piece called “A Just and Equitable Cannabis Industry.” Her plan calls for sweeping changes, some of which she says could be made without the approval of Congress.

While Warren doesn’t call for federal marijuana legalization on day one, like Bernie Sanders’ plan, included in her plan is full cannabis legalization throughout the U.S. “as soon as possible,” as well as the removal of marijuana from the federal list of Schedule-1 drugs.
She also calls for the expungement of records for previous cannabis-related convictions. New research into cannabis, allowing Native American tribes to decide on their own course for cannabis law on their lands, and protection of immigrants working in the cannabis industry are other points of her plan.
