Ohio Governor Comes Out Against Adult-Use Cannabis Legalization
While its neighboring states of Michigan and Illinois allow recreational cannabis use, Ohio’s governor, Mike DeWine says it won’t happen in Ohio while he’s governor. Cleveland Scene reports that while medical marijuana is legal in Ohio, Governor DeWine stated in an interview this week that he believes making weed legal for all adults would be a mistake.

As for his rationale, the governor says that because today’s cannabis is more potent, it could present a health risk for young people. But, as quoted in the article, the Marijuana Policy Project’s Matthew Schweich says the “gateway” theory has been debunked by experts, time and again. He goes on to state that voters in legal states have made it clear that an end to prohibition is what they want.
