In an overwhelmingly supportive vote, the Kentucky House of Representatives has approved a bill that would legalize medical marijuana in that state. And, as reported on the NORML blog, the vote is significant, as it’s the first time a KY legislative body has advanced a medical cannabis bill. The vote reflects the will of the people of Kentucky, as determined in a poll showing 90 percent support of medical marijuana among citizens of the state.

The bill will now head to the Kentucky Senate, where it is expected to receive stiff opposition. However, it has strong support from the state’s governor, Andy Beshear. If passed, the bill, HB 136, approved medical cannabis patients would be able to purchase marijuana products from licensed state dispensaries, but smokable product would not be allowed.
