Joe Biden Says More Cannabis Research Needed Before Federal Legalization

Democrat presidential candidate, former Vice President Joe Biden, has had several stances on cannabis legalization over the years. His most recent stance, according to a post in The GrowthOp, is that before marijuana can be made legal at the federal level, more studies are needed. He made the claim on Charlamagne tha God’s Breakfast Club radio show.

Biden on Cannabis Legalization

On Charlamagne’s show, Biden was asked why he was in favor of decriminalizing marijuana but would not commit to full legalization. The former Vice President and presumptive 2020 Democrat presidential nominee replied, “We should wait until the studies are done.” Biden was not clear about which specific studies were needed but said, “I think science matters.” He went on to say, “I know a lot of weed smokers.”

Biden’s plan calls for decriminalization of cannabis at the federal level. Under his plan, people convicted of possession crimes (for cannabis and other drugs) would be subject to mandatory treatment programs, rather than jail. Biden claims his plan will undo the damages the war on drugs caused, especially in communities of color.
