Is Cannabis an Effective Treatment for Osteoarthritis?

There is no known cure for arthritis, so the most patients can hope for at this time is treating the symptoms of this group of diseases. And, as reported on The Cannabis Exchange, cannabis compounds, including CBD, could be some of the treatments osteoarthritis patients can use to find relief. Millions of people around the world suffer from some form of arthritis, but the studies on cannabis use for treating osteoarthritis are limited.

Cannabis for Osteoarthritis

With people becoming more leery of taking prescribed pain killers, anecdotal evidence of cannabis and CBD use having a positive effect on osteoarthritis is mounting. Additionally, animal studies have shown positive results using cannabis compounds to treat the symptoms of various forms of arthritis.

One study specifically tested the efficacy of CBD on rats with arthritis and showed encouraging results in treating osteoarthritis in the animals. So, while more studies are needed, but evidence is growing in favor of medical cannabis treating arthritis.
