Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) Says Congress will Ignore Trump’s Call to End Medical Cannabis Protections
As reported yesterday (2/11/2020), President Trump’s 2021 budget would eliminate protections for states with medical cannabis legalization in place. If followed, the Trump policy would mean that states with legal cannabis programs would be faced with Justice Department interference in their programs. But as explained in a post on Marijuana Moment, at least one Republican Trump supporter in Congress says that won’t happen.

In a response to Marijuana Moment on Twitter, Rep. Gaetz, who is a strong supporter of Trump, said that Congress has the votes to keep the current policy protecting medical cannabis states as-is, through the appropriations process. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) is also quoted in the article and agrees that Congress will not allow Trump’s “misguided budget priorities” to stand.
