Buzzed Bees? Scientists Find Some Bees Love Weed
A post on UK’s METRO site says that scientists have been studying how bees interact with cannabis and hemp plants. And they have found 16 separate bee species that get pollen from marijuana plants. The study was conducted in New York, and the researchers found that cannabis plants are attracting a lot of attention from certain bee species.
The report from the study says that the quickly spreading cultivation of cannabis could become an important source for sustaining bee populations, especially during seasons when pollen is typically in short supply. As quoted in the article, “Hemp flowers late in the summer releasing an abundance of pollen during a period of native and agricultural floral dearth.”
