A Reason to Like Mitch McConnell?
It’s well known that Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is no friend to the cannabis industry. But, as pointed out in a Forbes article, he has been a huge supporter of the legal hemp industry. And, while he’s still an opponent of legalizing THC-containing cannabis products, it’s at least a step in the right direction.
As the article states, in his role as Senate Majority Leader, McConnell pushed to legalize hemp through his support of the 2018 Farm Bill and has urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture to quickly implement the policy. Additionally, he has encouraged federal banking regulators to communicate that banks can legally work with hemp businesses, and he’s pushed the FDA to clear the way for hemp-derived CBD products.
The icing on the cake is his 2020 reelection campaign’s posting of a video with him in a field of hemp, talking with hemp farmers. So, is it time to like Mitch McConnell? Maybe not, but we are glad to see him opening up to at least some cannabinoid-based products.
